Open Text's Jenkins to speak at Summit

By: Tamara Stoll - 13 days ago

The head of one of Canada's top international business success stories, Open Text Corp's Tom Jenkins, leads the line-up of keynotes at the ORION 2010 Summit this year.

The theme of the ORION Summit 2010 is "From Here to the Future - at an Innovation Crossroads." Bringing together leaders and innovators in advanced technologies, research and education, the Summit will be both a celebration of our achievements and a vision of the future of innovation in Ontario.

The event, which kicks off with the Summit and ORION Award reception on April 12, will present informative and inspiring speakers and breakout sessions on topics ranging from the latest collaborative tools for research and education, health research, digital media, college/industry collaboration, and more.

P. Thomas (Tom) Jenkins, Executive Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer of Open Text Corp., will give the opening keynote address at the ORION Summit 2010, at the MaRS Collaboration Centre, April 13.

Summit delegates can expect rich insights from Jenkins on how digital technologies are revolutionizing our lives, and how Ontario and Canada need to move quickly to compete meaningfully on the world economic stage, increasingly driven by global-scale collaboration and innovation.

Jenkins has served as a Director of Open Text, the largest independent software company in Canada, since 1994 and as its Chairman since 1998. He has also held several executive positions with DALSA Inc., an electronic imaging manufacturer based in Waterloo. In addition to his Open Text responsibilities, Jenkins is the Chair of the Canadian Digital Media Network, a federal centre of excellence.

He is also an appointed member of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). Mr. Jenkins is a member of the University of Waterloo Engineering Dean's Advisory Council, a director of the C.D. Howe Institute, a director of the Canadian International Council (CIC), and a director of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives (CCCE).

Further details on the program, now in development, will be announced shortly. Learn more at www.orion.on.ca/summit2010.
